DJ Father Shaheed of Poor Righteous Teachers Passes Away





Trenton, New Kersey's hip-hop world lost another giant and pioneer over the holiday weekend according to reports.

DJ Father Shaheed of Poor Righteous Teachers died Monday according to a report by BET .
DJ Father Shaheed, born Scott Phillips, died after his motorcycle struck a tree on New York’s Sprain Brook Parkway. He was 45.

According to a story posted on News 12’s Westchester website, police are still seeing information regarding what happened in Greenburgh New York. According to the report Phillips was killed on impact.

The report also indicated the accident happened during a period of heavy traffic and police hoped to find a number of witnesses.

On Wednesday, fellow member Wise Intelligent tweeted a link to an open thank you and remembrance to DJ Father Shaheed. “Poor Righteous Teachers would like to thank everyone from around the way, country.and world for their condolences, thoughts, prayers and well wishes concerning the passing of our dearest brother, friend, companion, comrade and fellow teacher — Father Shaheed. This hurts beyond the head, heart and stomach. This pain cuts deep into the souls of who we are,” Wise Intelligent said in his posting.

“We [Poor Righteous Teachers] were more than just a “rap group” and Shaheed was more than just a member and brilliant DJ/producer. He was a great human being, a loyal friend, a great father, a great brother, a damn .good son, and a committed husband.”

Poor Righteous Teachers rise was swift in the early ’90s, riding the wave of the increasingly popular hip hop movement of the era.

In 2009 the group was dealt another devastating blow when the producer behind Poor Righteous Teachers Anthony Depula, also known as Tony D, was killed in a car crash in Hamilton in April of 2009, he was 42.
