Mos Def's friend sheds light on "Denied Entry" Rumours - States He Is Not Banned From Enterting the U.S

News broke two days ago regarding the possible refusal of entry into the U.S for rapper Mos Def.  It was said that he had "immigration / legal" issues that prevented him from entering the U.S to play the Together Boston Festival and other tour dates. We finally have information from an associate and friend of Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) stating the rumours of his denial of entry is untrue. Speculation continued that his "legal issues" had to do with child support arrears which could have had the rappers passport seized.

The South Africa Times spoke with Abdi Hussein, another American living in Cape Town, said it was a "complete lie" that Mos Def was barred from the US, saying the rapper had merely "moved the dates" for his tour because he was working on other projects in Africa.

The organizers of the Together Boston musical festival wrote on the fest's website: "We regret to inform you that due to immigration/legal issues Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) is unable to enter back into the US and his coming US tour has been cancelled."

It is unclear why the festival organizers would state "immigration / legal issues" as the reason for the cancelled date. Mos Def's camp has not made any official statement regarding the situation and Abdi Hussein is the only associate who has made any comment. We will continue to monitor the situation.

Mos Def is currently in Ethophia for the Africa Re-imagination Creative Hub, at the African Unions Headquarters in Addis Ababa, which is "a global strategy to optimize use of Africa's resources for the benefit of all Africans"
