When we first received Lael Summer's latest project Burden To Bear we were torn whether or not to review something that wasn't hip hop. Hip Hop has many influences and the Lael's music enriches the the roots of what hip hop is...soul. Burden to Bear is a soulful project from the New York native. The production on this album is fantastic and Lael's vocals are intoxicating to say the least. It was hard to pick favorite songs and in no particular order here we go.

Born and raised in NYC, Lael Summer experienced the highs and lows of growing up in the heart of “the city that never sleeps.” It had a profound effect on the young singer who confesses, “there is nothing quite like the feeling of being unbelievably lost and alone while surrounded by millions of people. You grow up fast.” Lael’s maturity is evident in her debut album, Burden to Bear with a voice that emanates wisdom far beyond her years.
In Fall 2012, while attending the University of Southern California’s elite Popular Music Program, Summer signed to the True Groove Label and released a 4-song EP. Her full-length debut release, Burden to Bear, was produced by Global Soul pioneer Tomás Doncker who provides a streamlined palette for Lael’s sensual, soul flavored sound.
